Jen Overton Appointed as New Library Director
The Roseland Free Public Library Board of Trustees has promoted Jen Overton, former Children's Librarian, to the position of Library Director. She has worked as an elementary teacher in her native Texas, where she also studied Applied Learning and Development, Educational Psychology, and Information and Library Science. We congratulate Jen and look forward to her exciting plans for the library and our community!
Meet the Filmmaker: Erik Almquist
RESCHEDULED: This visit from West Caldwell filmmaker Erik Almquist, originally scheduled for Sept. 22, has been rescheduled for FRIDAY,OCTOBER 20, at 7 PM. Watch his two award-winning short films, The Great Unknown and The Watcher, then take part in a discussion and learn more about Erik and his craft!
Young Scientist Class
This month's young scientist is all about CRYSTALS! Kids ages 2 to 5 can join us on Monday, Sept. 25, at 2 pm to learn about these fascinating natural formations as they grow their own.
Pet Photo Contest
Is your pet photogenic and full of character? Then take part in our first-ever Pet Photo Contest, a fundraiser sponsored by The Friends of the Library! For more info, check out our "Friends News" tab on the website's homepage and download the "Pet Contest Entry Form" on the right-hand side! Submissions accepted now through Saturday, Oct. 14.

YA Star Wars Trivia
Middle and high school students, test your Star Wars knowledge and possibly take home a prize! Join us at 4 pm on Wednesday, September 27, at 4 pm.
Roseland Library Book Club
Our Book Club has announced its September selection: One Thousand White Women by James Fergus. This historic fiction novel takes an inside look at the controversial Brides for Indians program of the 1800s. The group will meet on Wednesday, September 27, at 7:15 pm for a discussion.
Descendants Takeover Night
Disney's Descendants are all the rage! Inspired by popularity of these movies, the library is hosting a Descendants-themed Takeover Night for kids ages 7 and up on Friday, Sept. 29, from 5 to 9 pm. Enjoy pizza and other treats, a scavenger hunt, the Descendants films, and other fun games!
Lego Mindstorms for Young Adults
Middle and high school students are invited to take on the Lego Mindstorms building challenge on Tuesdays, October 11, 18, and 25 from 4 to 5 pm. RSVP required.
Author Visit: Mark Vogel
Get into the spirit of Halloween with Mark Vogel's presentation on Jack the Ripper on Friday, October 13, at 7 pm. Vogel, who wrote the novel The Ripper's Time, has also researched Jack the Ripper extensively, including London, the legendary villain's stomping grounds! RSVP required.
Fall T'ai Chi Chih
Fall T'ai Chi Chih runs every Tuesday through Nov. 28 (note: no class on Election Day, Nov. 7). Beginning students arrive at 9:30 am, followed by more advanced students at 10:30 am. $70 for all 10 weeks. For more information, contact Lee Bergman at
Adult Yoga Every Wednesday
We offer Adult Yoga classes on a WEEKLY basis, every Wednesday at 10:30 am with certified instructors Taryn and Kristin, who will alternate instruction. Call to RSVP.
Matinee Mondays
Join us every Monday at 1 pm for a different movie and popcorn! Next film: Gifted on September 25. Movie is rated PG-13, and runs for 41 minutes. Popcorn will be served. No RSVP needed.
Wanted: Graphic Novels & Comic Books
We are currently accepting donations of comic books and graphic novels for patients at the Essex County Hospital Center, a psychiatric facility in Cedar Grove. Please bring your donations to the circulation desk during our regular hours.
Museum Passes Available
Patrons can borrow passes for themselves and/or their families for The Newark Museum, Montclair Museum, Morris Museum, and (coming soon) the NY Transit Museum and Imagine That!
